Train & Partners Architects was founded in 1990 as a design firm in general architectural practice. We have made a concerted effort to assemble and maintain a staff with diverse interests and varied experience and as a result have a broad portfolio of award-winning designs for projects in Virginia and the mid-Atlantic US. The collective experience of the partners and staff encompasses project types that include commercial projects, religious buildings, higher education, K-12 school, and residential projects; this work includes new construction, additions, adaptive re-use, historic preservation and interior design. We seek to achieve the highest level of design quality through thoughtful responses to our clients’ needs. We strive to design and deliver projects appropriate to their circumstances, within the constraints of program, schedule, cost, and the realities of construction. We are problem solvers and, as generalists, are dedicated to design quality, integrity, and elegance. We do not design to a particular style or reference; we work to solve each problem specifically for its client, program, and context. We utilize the abstract qualities of rhythm, proportion, balance, and scale to achieve visually cohesive and pleasing forms. These traditional forms of architectural composition give the projects a rigor in thought and execution that is at once comprehensible in intent as well as elegant in reality. This is enhanced with a love for materials, which we use in a straightforward, honest manner. Responsive to their surroundings, the buildings are set into the landscape with the desire to create a seamless connection between built and natural form.
