Monticello Fire & Rescue #11

Faced with an expanding population, Albemarle County, VA is building several new fire stations to expand professional fire and rescue services. County Managers involved Train & Partners from the beginning, asking the architectural firm to develop a successful prototype that could be adapted to fit other building sites.

As part of extensive early research, area Fire-Rescue Division Chiefs joined Train & Partners Architects in touring many modern fire stations in Northern Virginia and in Richmond. After completing these studies, Train & Partners designed Monticello Fire & Rescue #11.

Station #11 sleeps 13 emergency personnel and holds their turnout gear. It provides a dayroom, kitchen and dining rooms, and exercise, meeting, training, and decontamination rooms. The drive-through Apparatus Bay is large enough for four response vehicles, and is equipped with special ventilation to remove exhaust.

The result of a rigorous process of design and research is an efficient, compact, and easily adaptable building plan.
