Charlottesville Catholic School

Charlottesville Catholic School commissioned Train & Partners Architects to create a new school for six hundred pupils, grades pre-K through 12, on a 16-acre site just outside the City of Charlottesville.

Designed in phases, the project embraces the landscape's rolling topography with a one-story elementary school (Phase I), and as the site drops off, a two-story high school (Phase II). A central courtyard marks the juncture of the elementary school and the high school; a chapel, an assembly building, and the schools' two libraries frame that courtyard.

The 32,000-square foot elementary school opened in August, 2001.

Workers completed the spiritual and literal center of the school Master Plan, St. Dunstan Chapel, in February, 2002.

A 16,870 sq. ft. Gymnasium/Assembly Building opened in March, 2003. The upper level is the middle school basketball and volleyball court with a coaches' office. A stage area and kitchen/prep room support spaces are provided for school performances and special functions. The lower level includes locker rooms and future space for storage, systems, administrative, and academic spaces.

The high school, when built, will be approximately sixty-six thousand square feet, with a capacity of 200 students.
