The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Clean Energy R&D Center supports a mission to enhance the visibility of clean energy research in southwest Virginia and establish the region as a leader in clean coal and natural gas, carbon capture and storage, and renewable energy resources. The center acts as a business incubator for upstart research firms focused on clean energy by providing over 15,000 square feet of flexible office, meeting, and laboratory space.

 

The Clean Energy R&D Center utilizes as many sustainable systems as possible, acting as an example of energy efficiency and sustainable design for the region. The center has a LEED Gold certification.

 

This project received the Merit Award for Design from the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
